Abstract

Stroke is an acute neurological dysfunction caused by cerebrovascular disorders, including three major types: ischemic stroke, primary intracerebral hemorrhage, and subarachnoid hemorrhage. Stroke imposes a major global disease burden; therefore, improving treatment quality is a priority in healthcare. Objectives: (1) To describe the current state of stroke treatment quality based on the RES-Q criteria at An Giang Provincial General Hospital (now Chau Doc General Hospital) in 2023; (2) To analyze the factors affecting stroke treatment quality based on the RES-Q criteria at An Giang Provincial General Hospital in 2023. Methods: A mixed-methods study combining quantitative and qualitative approaches was conducted. Results: The mean age of patients was 65 years; ischemic stroke accounted for 81% of cases, while intracerebral hemorrhage accounted for 16%. The hospital achieved the WSO Angels Platinum standard in all four quarters of 2023. Of the 10 criteria assessed, six met the Diamond standard and four met the Platinum standard. Positive factors influencing treatment quality included healthcare workforce, financial resources, equipment, management and the electronic medical record system. Negative factors consisted of insufficient health education communication and community knowledge about stroke. Conclusion: The hospital should collaborate with local healthcare and media sectors to improve community knowledge about stroke, aiming to meet the WSO Angels Diamond standard.
