Abstract

Bamboos are distributed quite widely, can be found in natural forests, planted forest ecosystems, in the streets, home gardens, and botanical gardens from the northern mountains, the southern, the central highlands, and the southern central coast of Vietnam. This study showed that 93 bamboo species were encountered during the investigation, Bambusa accounted for the highest occurrence frequency at 41.9%, Dendrocalamus frequency is 18.2% and others. Up to now, many bamboo species have not been identified specifically by complexion. Therefore, there is a need for incoming research to better identify different bamboo species. There are 73/93 investigated species have been successfully adopted and grown in botanical gardens. The soil investigated result at seven bamboo forests showed that the bamboo forests, in general, the soil fertility is quite good, the total microbial index is quite high. This can be explained that the bamboo ecosystem not only has the ability to hold soil, prevent erosion, provide non timber forest products, but also has the potential to improve soil fertility.
