Enhancing the Management of Patient Safety at Tien Giang Provincial General Hospital in the 2024 - 2025 Period

Abstract
Objective: To characterize the current status of patient-safety management and to strengthen patient-safety governance at Tien Giang Provincial General Hospital during 2024 – 2025. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 300 healthcare professionals employed at the hospital. Results: Baseline (input) indicators: A positive assessment of ward-level patient safety was reported by 86,0 % of respondents; The 12-month incident-reporting rate was 30,7 %; The overall mean compliance across the 12 patient-safety culture domains was 84,4 %. Follow-up (output) indicators: The proportion rating ward-level patient safety as positive rose to 92,4 %; The 12-month medical-incident reporting rate increased to 50,2 %; Overall compliance across the 12 patient-safety culture domains improved to 90,3 %. Statistically significant associations were observed between perceived patient-safety level and job position, professional role, and degree of patient contact (p < 0,05). Incident reporting within the preceding 12 months was also significantly associated with professional role (p = 0,026). Conclusion: Healthcare staff at Tien Giang Provincial General Hospital demonstrated a high baseline compliance (84,4 %) with the 12 patient-safety culture domains. Nevertheless, to further enhance clinical service quality, the hospital should implement structured processes and strategic directions aimed at cultivating an optimal patient-safety culture.
